August!

I noticed today that with the change of the calendar page it actually "feels" like August. The produce in the vegetable garden is ripening, and there's just something in the air that smells like late summer. There are lazy flowers in the garden and there's a big coneflower painting lazing away on my easel. I'll finish it soon; I have a show in mind that needs a submission, and this will be perfect!

Here it is! Comments?

Decisions

Have you ever had one of those days where you had planned to go somewhere but obstacles kept popping up to make you change your mind? Today was one of those days...we had planned to go to the Denver Art Museum, but just as we finished getting ready, the weather radio went off alerting us to a tornado watch. "Ok," we said. "We'll just keep our eyes on the skies."

Not 5 minutes later, I headed into the studio to pick up my sketchbook and I smelled something burning...a baseboard heater was shorting out and threatening to start a fire. We dropped what we were doing in order to disconnect it and make sure nothing was smoldering. Then, the weather radio went off again, advising us of a tornado warning (funnel on the ground) about 40 miles southwest of us. "Ok, the heater is secure, but that storm is moving our way. Let's just go to Castle Rock for lunch."

So...we headed out, and as we crested the hill we could see a darkening sky. As we got about halfway to Castle Rock, the sky was turning green and throwing lightning around. I've lived in Colorado most of my life, but I'm originally from Oklahoma, and I know that a green sky like that means trouble. I double-checked my weather alert app, and they had just posted a tornado warning for Castle Rock. So we gave up on the lunch idea, turned around and headed for home. No tornadoes here, no hail, but it's been cold and rainy all day. A good day to hang out in the studio and get some work done!

Aspens

I dug out a painting that I haven't worked on for awhile and fixed a few things. What do you think?

Time for a Breather

I'm typically pretty busy, and it is seldom that I sit down and take a breather. Today my to-do list included working in the co-op gallery that I belong to (Gallery 113 in downtown Colorado Springs). When we are not busy I have the luxury of watching people, watching the sky, and...taking a breather. Surrounded by great art, I'm giving myself a chance to unplug...I know I will return to the easel tomorrow refreshed and recharged.

It's great! I highly recommend the practice. Try it. See if you feel recharged after giving yourself time to "just be" for a little while.

Changing Times

Hi everyone! It's been awhile since I posted, and I hope you all have been well. I'm happy to report that I am now a fulltime artist, and in addition, have re-entered the world of freelance graphic design. As a result, I'm in the studio on a daily basis, and I hope you will enjoy seeing my new work. I just installed a show at Nourish Organic Juice, a fabulous little place at 303 East Pikes Peak, Colorado Springs. Do stop in and check it out.
